BOM DIA LISBOA! – I AM MOVING TO PORTUGAL!

SURPRISE! I AM MOVING TO PORTUGAL!

Only one week to go and then I will be taking of to Portugal, to experience the sunny weather and exciting new life in this beautiful country. Portugal is a totally new destination for me as I have never been there yet, even though I have traveled many times to Portugal’s neighbor country Spain. Actually, we never got the chance to visit Portugal even when we lived in Spain, all though it did cross our minds many times. Now it is finally time to go and see what this interesting country looks like, because I got a great new job offer in tourism from Lisbon and it just isn’t my style to say “no”, when a good opportunity comes to me and knocks me in the head.

Portugal is the most western country in Europe and it’s located between the Atlantic ocean and Spain. The capital city Lisbon is colorful and roughly charming and it has beautiful architecture and sunshine throughout the year. Lisbon is also mentioned many times in different lists about the world’s greenest cities.

CARPE DIEM – SEIZE THE MOMENT

It all happened very fast. This spring has been quite a turmoil with learning to run my own business and figuring out the job possibilities in my own industry, the tourism industry. I have also been missing my friends abroad a lot. The challenges and limitations with the Covid taught me quickly that you can never take anything for granted.

You can never fully trust your day job, as it can be taken away just like that. Your own income is always and only up to you and that’s why I made my best decision to start my own business and I absolutely love it. Now that I am once again moving abroad I am taking my business with me, even if I am working for someone else again too. I am a person who loves to grab new opportunities with both arms and even if it’s super scary, sometimes you just have to take the jump and go for it.

BIG CHANGES AND NEW EXPERIENCES

I have moved abroad once before when we moved to Valencia in Spain for my internship for six months. This time it is a bit different though, because this time I will be leaving alone and not with my boyfriend Mika. In Spain we experienced everything together and faced all the challenges and the happy times together and now he will have to stay in Finland because of his acting work, at least for now. This move to Lisbon will be fun and exiting, but also a bit sad, because a long distance relationship has never been something that we wanted and I am not happy to leave without Mika. Now it’s time for us both to make our own dreams happen and for now it means that there will have to be a few more countries between us to do so. I have good faith that everything will be good, even if sometimes there might be harder moments.

From Portugal I expect new work experience and new travel experiences, amazing nature and ocean views, interesting cities to explore and learning about a new culture. Lisbon is also a good spot for exploring other places in Portugal and also a good spot for going traveling to other countries, within the Covid limitations of course. I also hope to meet new lovely people and to make some new friends!

SOON IT’S TIME FOR TAKE OFF

I am so nervous, scared and exited at the same time. The Covid situation in Portugal is getting better now and the restrictions are slowly being lifted. I got a decent flight from KLM with good cancellation policies and a good prize. I will be adding updates about my journey here and also my instagram, so remember to follow my account @tiinajohannaaa. For travel information about Portugal go see Visit Portugal. I can’t wait to tell you everything about Lisbon and Portugal on sight!
